Idle Giants is a collaborative effort led by a global network of civil society organizations across Europe, the U.S.A., Brazil—and more—that are concerned with the slow progress medium and heavy-duty truck manufacturers are making in transitioning to zero-emission vehicles – a delay with high impact on both public health and climate as they continue to produce and sell diesel trucks.
But truck manufacturers could instead use their significant resources and influence to lead a just transition to 100% zero-emission vehicles.
The Idle Giants Campaign spotlights Volvo Group & Daimler Truck—the world’s largest truck manufacturers by revenue—for their significant influence over the trucking industry and policymaking, insufficient and misplaced investments, and actions that either stall or delay the shift to clean technologies–contradicting their commitments to sustainability and the pressing need for a just transition. Being closely aligned in strategy, alliances, and investments, they have a unique opportunity to instead lead the industry and accelerate the transition through their investments, sales, and policy advocacy.
