Las Vegas, Consumer Electronics Show 2025. Volvo Group’s CEO Martin Lundstedt wowed the audience with a vision of clean, cutting-edge technology for the trucks of the future—no fossil fuels, no emissions, pure innovation.
What Martin did not say is that Volvo Group North America, along with other truck manufacturers, has been delaying the adoption of the technologies they are promising in the U.S. As recently as 2024, they have opposed and lobbied to weaken emissions standards that could shift the market to make electric trucks more accessible, scared dealers out of supporting these same rules, poured money into new plants for diesel trucks, and tried to sell natural gas and biofuels as “clean” alternatives—despite knowing both are fuels that emit pollution.
Why should Americans be forced to deal with diesel fumes, polluted roads, and avoidable health crises?
Why should people in the US have to settle for polluting solutions when the technology for truly clean trucks is already here?
